Just 18 dollars a month

Today I decided to head to City Hall to relieve my savings from being
all couped up in a bank account and making sure I stay broke. Upon
exiting the subway station (which was filled with uniformed cops), a
nice lady came up to me after making eye contact. After saying hi she
asked me if I knew what Child International was. I lied and said yes.
Well, she goes on and make me feel like crap telling me how children
are dying everyday and how I can save a child's life by sponsoring one
for just under 20 dollars a month.

Of course I was making all kinds of excuses on how 20 dollars a month
is a lot to me (being a college student, loans, trying to move out,
etc) but she didn't buy it as she told me she is a college student
herself. She took out a picture of a four year old boy in an envelope and had to mention, for some reason, that the boy is Asian like me (ASIAN? OH BOY! Where do I sign up?). I finally said that once I feel financially stable I would definitely start donating to important causes. She says okay and thanks
me for my time.

So I walked away, put my Sony headphones back on, pushed play on my Ipod, walked into J&R and bought me a nice digital camera
that cost me close to 400 hundred dollars, walked out, hopped on the
subway with my 76 dollars unlimited metrocard, got home, took off my 30
dollars converses, plucked myself on my couch that cost my mom more
than half a grand, and watched tv.

Seriously, I do plan on helping others that are less fortunate one day. Just not today.

I'm so broke I can almost cry

I needed a good weekend.

Friday was my high school reunion (yeah it’s only been two years but hey, my school is never good with… anything) and I had a blast. I thought there was going to be drama and all that we-don’t-like-each-other-anymore kind of vibe but that wasn’t the case. Seeing familiar faces really made me happy. Hope to make plans to hang with them later on.

Saturday was just fun. Went to Webster Hall to see The Raveonettes and Autolux. While waiting in line, I was a dick to Giovanni Ribisi who walked by. I still feel bad about that. Went inside and waited over an hour in front of the stage. Autolux came on and they blew me away. They were so good; I felt that The Raveonettes should’ve been the opening act. After the show, I bought a shirt and cd from Autolux and got the hot drummer to sign an Autolux sticker for me.

I feel that this entry should’ve been longer and more detailed but I should be heading to bed. I gatta get up really early for my job tomorrow (working back at gramercy jewelry so I’m be on AIM a lot).

Oh and thanks to all of yous for your thoughts. I decided not to work for Vector at all. The more I think about working for them, the iffier I feel. Sorry if you guys are disappointed. If I ever do sell knives in my lifetime, I’ll be sure to make it up and stab you guys with it (and ask you to pay for them of course).

What do you think?

I need your opinion, guys.

I received a job position at Vector marketing. I'll be a representative for them, selling (or "showing") really amazing kitchen knives. Now these knives ARE great, no doubt about that. However, the only way I get paid is to show them to people.

AND by showing, I mean taking time out of people's lives to set an appointment and GOING to their home and presenting them the knives.

Now keep in mind that I live in queens. I know that I can present to a few of my friend's family but after that I dont know if I can set up any more appointments. The way I'm suppose to keep going is by asking the people I presented to tell their friends about me so I can show them the knives. By the way, I get paid 16 bucks per presentation I make.

That means I have to do 10+ presentations per week to make a decent pay. It doesnt sound that bad at all really.

SO I ask you. What do you think? Can I maintain a 10+ presentations per week here in the city? Are people here friendly enough to basically invite a telemarker into their homes?

oh, and P.S I have to buy my own kitchen knife set (about 114 bucks) in order to do a presentation.

EDIT EDIT:

Okay, after talking with jared I came up with the idea of getting two jobs. One working for Vector and one a little more stable (and boring). I can work for my boss last summer again and doing presentations for Vector doesnt seem to take much of my time. This way, I dont have that pressure to do a lot of presentations per week.

So far these are the people I can think of presenting to:

My family
My mom's coworkers (she has a lot)
My friend's family
My neighbors (most of them are senior citizens who're a bunch of sweet folks)

I like the idea of having two jobs but I still want to hear what you guys think.

A week into the summer and already my mom's driving me nuts. I really don't know how I'm going to handle commuting when the semester comes. This summer is definitely going to remind me why I left home to go dorm in the first place.

I have a lot to look foward to for the summer. Already I'm having an interesting time adjusting to the weather. Catching up with old friends really puts me in a good mood. It does suck how we're all no longer close friends like we were back in high school. Whatever, I'm fine as long as we keep in touch.

It's sad how I still havent finish unpacking yet. I'm such a mess with my schedule. Hope it clears up when I get a JOB. heh.

I still can't call Queens "home" yet. Don't think I ever will.

Seeing the campus during the very early morning hours

I had such a fucking great weekend.

Thursday:

We head to the dunes/wastelands to go have a bonfire. It was a whole lot of us setting up a huge fire. All we did was just bond and enjoyed the warmth. I took constant pictures and videos just because I, as the city boy I am, found the bonfire fascinating.

Friday:

More bonding time. We decided to have fun with a yellow marker and a black light. We gave each other temporary and fun highlighting tattoos. It was something about it, it was just fun. Afterward I saw the movie, The Boondocks Saints. Just wow. By now, it was three in the morning and my good old roommate from last night dropped in to say hi. I kept him company until he passed out on our couch. Covered him with a blanket then went to bed (after seeing Chris' awesome video).

Saturday/really early Sunday:

GLUTTON FEST. Goddamn Chris. His dad invited the whole suite to his place to eat the best sausages cooked on a grill.

Best.Grilled.Food.EVER.

We stuffed our fucking faces until we had to force ourselves to eat. Even still, we could not finish all the food. When we "finished" eating, we had to rush ourselves and our stuffed stomaches so we can catch George Carlin in the PAC. I still cant believe we got to see him... for FREE.

Later that night we got together at one in the morning and helped my roommate finish his alcohol. Drinking with a RA alone made the night unique. We all got nice and drunk. I killed time talking to my good friend from back home while sitting on the sinks in the hallway bathroom. Closing in at five in the morning I realize I might as well catch the sun rise (most of my pussy suitemates passed out by now). So I head out to the cold and early morning where good ol' Cameron and Travis kept me company for two or three minutes. I walked down past the Farside parking and watch the sunrise. It was definitely an amazing view to see the campus glow during the morning light. I really wished I had a camera to at least "try" to capture what I saw. I really want to share the blooming trees from the pathway to the gym, the birds nesting/resting in the bushes that we pass by between the dining hall and crossroads, and the sun touching the top of the buildings.

This is one of the best weekends of my life, just because it was simplicity at its best, yet still extremely entertaining. I'm really going to miss my sophomore year. The weekend's not over yet so there's probably more to add later.

I'll probably never forget this.

I remember taking the railroad on a Saturday night not too long ago. From Grand Central to White Plains, it was a 32 minute long trip. It wasn’t too bad being that I was in a bus for four hours right before that.

Anyways, while I’m on the train Mr. Conductor-chewing-on-his-gum comes to punch-hole our tickets. I had my ipod set on single repeat (the song? Reptilia) and I gave him my ticket. He moves on. Then there’s a little girl with his mom and pop one row ahead of me. She’s giving her dad such a hard time that it’s not hard to notice her giggling away. The conductor collects their tickets and does something that’ll stick in my mind. With his hole puncher, he punches holes in a little number-of-seats-taken index card enough to form a smiley face and gives it to the girl. The girl looks at the conductor and gives him a slow growing comfortable smile and says thank you.

I admire that conductor. Such a simple and sweet gesture made that little girl’s day (/night) just a little more unique. It’s really interesting to think about the simple actions we do that affects others. It makes me feel I should be more responsible with everything that I do. It's almost scary to think that even a simple smile can change a person’s day.

The rest of that night had me waiting for the lousy Purchase bus for an hour and a half. It was raining and a bit chilly. Oh well, The Strokes kept me warm.
Guess I'm that bored.
